Our Partnership with Audubon
The National Audubon Society created the Audubon Conservation Ranching program in response to steep declines in grassland bird populations. Their “green seal” empowers consumers to select products that come from lands where better management practices ensure diverse bird habitat, healthy soils, abundant pollinators, and cleaner waters.
Our beef comes from ranches that have been certified under this program. More here.
Different birds eat different seeds and insects. Seeds and bugs start in healthy soil growing diverse plant life.
Different birds like to make their homes in different habitat ‘structures.’ Grassland structure can be shaped by grazing practices (for better or worse).
Birds want places to hide and play, too. Tall and varying grass creates safe space to forage, breed and nest.
Birds Tell Us
Birds sit at the top of the local ecological pyramid.
Birds are living sensors that tell us that all life is thriving.
Finally, Beef that's Better for You and The Environment
For many people, beef represents an apparent ethical, environmental and nutritional dilemma. But native peoples worldwide prospered for millennia in a mutually healthy and meaningful relationship with the once vibrant grasslands and savannas where homo sapiens first emerged. In America, the best of those grasslands have since been converted to industrial row crop farming, and the rest have lost much of the critical dynamism of their vast roaming herds of grazers. Grassland birds are telling us that something is badly wrong.
We believe the problem with America's beef production system today is not the cow, but the how. Beef produced in a way that mimics the roaming bison can provide the same protein, fat and micronutrient-dense real, whole foods that have nourished humans for millions of years, while also recreating those lost grasslands and the life that once thrived in them.
We are already proud to partner with the National Audubon Society to produce beef in these ways that also bring birds (and other wildlife) back to America's grasslands.
And now we are proud to support the Sacred Cow film while conveniently bringing better beef with a bigger purpose direct to your doorstep.
